2014 marks the year for Sonny Blake´s debut release. Although this is his first official release Sonny Blake has a long musical and creative past.
Coming from an art school background he soon discoverd sound and music as his canvas. He produced sound installations and graphic art like skateboard designs and started to experiment with different audio sources like tapes, turntables, samplers, fx and synthesizers.
Beside music and art Sonny Blake was also involved in the bmx industry where he competed internationally at major events like the x-games and won the world championship title in 2005.
Except for the bmx riding he is also responsible to co-produce, direct and score own bmx videoprojects that go beyond your typical hardcore riding edit.
From the mid 90s on Sonny Blake was part of numerous music projects and released tracks on various labels under one of his many monikers.
His experiences as a versatile art & lifestyle all-rounder, led to a broad mix of music styles that now defines the musical output of Sonny Blake. With a good amount of bass, straight forward drums, analog sound design and attention to detail Sonny Blake tunes always bear a certain dynamic movement and energetic heavyness without forgetting about the small and the big melodies.
Sonny Blake's debut ep 'Perception' delivers a significant insight into the boundless soul of an artist, who always seeks for new ways to express his mind. Be prepared for a record, capable to take you on an emotional ride across sunset highways and sweaty clubnights. Assure thyself!
When Sonny Blake had the idea to make a video of putting together a bmx bike and making the music for the video only from the original sounds recorded during the video shooting, we at Tiefparterre Records immediately decided to link this art project to Sonny Blakes debut EP. Not only because these two projects were implemented at the same period of time, but in fact it gives you an significant overview about what Sonny Blake is all about.
The sounds, recorded from the videoshooting, have been processed with different fx and tools like reverbs, resonators, delays and many more to achieve tonal and rhythmic parts for the final soundtrack. The task was to NOT use any other samples, sound generating sources, synthesizers, drum machines or whatsoever.
